Many, many years ago in the early sixties a young John Roberts arrived in Woodbridge to fit out his newly acquired sailing yacht in readiness to sail to The Marquesas Islands. Short of money and desperate for a pint he took any work he could find and in his spare he time taught drawing and painting to anyone who would sit still for long enough. Life moved on and work on "Wild Gull" his 30ft wooden sloop drifted into the doldrums and his grand scheme began to falter.
And this is precisely when the heroine of our story enters, quay left. Annette a beautiful young, talented and keen art student began to take John's mind off the dangers of cruising the North sea and beyond. The rest is history, Top Floor Studio is not a stones throw from the quay and John and Annette still teach and work in clear site of where Wild Gull was once moored.
The pair set up the studio together and rose to become multi award winning photographers with Annette being Fuji Portrait photographer of the year in 1989 and an early adopter and creator of many of the styles and formats that are common place these days. Graphic art, sign writing, painting and drawing, photography, the two artists forged many links in the community and Top Floor Studio is one of the longest running independent businesses in Woodbridge.
Their daughter Jo, one of three children, is now following in the family tradition. After gaining a degree in Photography and Fine Art, working freelance as artist/photographer and latterly Head of Art at The Abbey School in Woodbridge, Jo has taken up the reins in order to develop the business with her partner Henry a well known and talented artist in his own right.
They are all proud to offer the enhanced, modern, state of the art printing facilities and to continue the family photography and fine art traditions to the highest standards.
